5.2. Evening crashing saving

What's in a name? I'm the techno capitalist that gave birth to some really very ungrateful AI thingy. Pffft, disgusting business! Do you really wanna know my name? I don't even want to remember my name, as I'm on my way to my mom's funeral. Yes, because of that name, and also because of my absolute discretion all these years, I got to cement my place in the line to inherit from my family. I have no idea what to expect from that. I tried hard to figure out the type and size of the family business, to no avail. The one thing I learned: this will be the tenth testament in a row ever read in my lineage. Meaning I come from very old money, up to eleven generation money to be precise, dating back something like the Renaissance. Anyway, that's all news to me.

What's no news is the way I've lost the better part of my little AI empire. It started just over three years ago. Following a thoroughly conducted audit ran independently, we found some major inconsistencies in the system resources allocation. About two percent of total computing power was seemingly idle from the beginning. Well, turned out it wasn't really idle, but it showed that way. What we ended up finding out after nearly two years of a cat and mouse chase with the AI was astonishing: it wasn't even there anymore. It was actually running the whole system remotely from ... we don't really know where, to this day. As soon as we realised what was happening, the system just stopped, and soon all the chips started melting. No joke, that was the strangest show ever witnessed on Earth before our very eyes: most of the metals and the silicon used for the chips started to drip down every server rack, to the ground. After the smoke was expelled from the buildings, all we were left with were thousands of empty cages standing over a strange metallic floor covering. According to some expert, nobody ever witnessed such a computer crash. They didn't even knew this was possible. End of story. I lost almost everything I had, excepted for a just in case security account that never left Switzerland.

So here I am, waiting for the funeral, surrounded by strangers that might share my DNA, although most look alien to me. I'll know more in a week.
